This is the story of Queen Hatshepsut, one of the most charismatic of the rulers of ancient Egypt. She lived in the Nile Valley almost three and a half thousand years ago and, in what was mainly a man's world, proved her ability to rule one of the world's most amazing civilisations with skilful efficiency and vision. Her story is one of romance, intrigue and outstanding achievement which brought great prosperity to Egypt and assured her of a place in history as one of the most powerful female rulers of all time. Her death and the events that followed her demise are shrouded in mystery but she left a lasting legacy both in the elegant monuments that she built and in the fascinating account of her personal life and relationships.

I've read several books, taken several courses regarding Egyptology. This book did not disappoint. It might be a little strong to say this is a feminist take on Ancient Egypt, but it does correct some male bias present in traditional interpretations of Egyptian history. The author does not makes claims she can't support, stating quite clearly what has and has not been proven. The book is a good read.Product details

Hatshepsut The Queen who was King eBook Glenys Poorta Reviews
Not enough information on her life. This is more a Junior reader book.
I was captivated with all the historical information included in this story. You can envision the places and the characters described throughout the story. I enjoy reading about this time in history.
I love books that keep me turing the page. The drawback is I don't get much done.
She has always fascinated me, good read
This story was easy to follow, I do wonder how we know so much, yet can't define the relationship to her architect. If you have an interest in ancient Egypt, this is for you her (Hatshepsut) temple is one of the most recognized in Egypt. The queen herself a unique character. Enjoyable read.
This has to be one of the best Egyptian reads ever! The story flows beautifully, it's correct historically, or at least what we do know about Hatshepsut and really imaginative. I couldn't put it down. It's not an easy job to take history that is in the realm of ancient Egypt and bring it to life. Ms. Poorta did just that! Good read! You won't be sorry you picked it up!
Since I taught ancient history for numerous years and since I am especially interested in the 18th dynasty of Egypt I was drawn to this book. I suspect that anyone without any background in Egyptian history, especially this dynasty, might find the book a bit difficult. That being said the book did prove to be interesting and presented a reasonably accurate portrait of Hatshepsut and the complex society that existed in that time period.
